Systems outside the CAE Network will require you to enter the full hostname (such as ) of the Unix or Linux system you want to connect to in the Host Name box ( click here for a list of those systems). You can click on one of the saved sessions and click the Load button to select one. PuTTY is a very common secure shell program for Windows, is a free download, and can be easily copied to a memory stick or other removable device. Use of a secure shell (SSH) program means that you can run an application on one of the CAE network's Unix or Linux workstations from other PCs around campus or anywhere in the world.
